Mated and virgin queens through the post

Mated and virgin queens through the post

Welcome to the September Newsletter. I mentioned last month that I’d been receiving mated and virgin queens through the post as part of the NatBIP piloting process. Each batch survived the postal journey from East Sussex to Cheshire and we picked up useful information about posting queens during hot weather, how to prepare for the delivery and how to cope if a delivery appears just with 12 hours notice!   The picture above shows a typical batch just after delivery. My own bees were also interested in the new arrivals.

The NatBIP programme is continuing onwards. Details on the next round of webinars are in this newsletter – please register so that we can send automatic reminders to you about each webinar. Spaces are limited (to 1,000 attendees maximum) which sounds a lot but we are opening up the webinars for a short while to all beekeepers and spaces are being booked up quickly. We will soon be publishing details and timings of the next major deliverables in the NatBIP programme to help prepare everybody for their next season’s beekeeping.
